How to Stay Organized in your Mystery Shopping Business

Hello everyone! My name is Heidi Hall and I’m from Nashville, TN. I’m a single mom to an amazing 26-year-old son and a mom-in-law to his amazing wife. Today I want to talk about staying organized in your business. Here are a few things I do to stay organized in my mystery shopping business.

The first thing I did was get the iShop Tracker. If you don’t have it, you need to get it. It does everything for you. Yes, you have to input some items but it will keep you organized and it’s way easier to keep up with your totals. Also, it helps you know when you’ve been paid and when your payment is to be expected. I color code mine. For example, when I get paid, I highlight it green, for money, of course. When the month is over, I add up the total and highlight it in yellow. I then put out to the side how many shops I did that month. I leave the rest white until I receive payment and highlight green. I also, write my shops in my calendar that way I have it with me wherever I go and I know what I have for the day.

The next thing I do to stay organized is use file folders for every company I do business with. The name is on the folder and I put whatever I have run off for those jobs. I put them in date order from the bottom up so that the most recent date is on top. I also put in the paperwork I have with how much I got paid for that job. That way, if something happens to my computer I know how much I should be getting paid for that job. Also, when it comes tax time, I just pull out my folders and put them in a box with my tax return on top with the year and file it away. That way, if I’m audited all my information is there and all I have to do is pull that box. Then I start all over with my existing folders that are already made up for the next year. I add any new companies with a new folder and I’m ready to go.

The next thing I do is I have an envelope with nothing but gas receipts in it. Again, at the end of the year, I add them all up and send that to my tax guy and he does his thing and I add up my mileage and send him and I’m good to go. I also put that in my tax box in case they audit me.

I hope this helps a little bit in getting you organized or started in the right direction.
